South Park, Pennsylvania - As most have heard by now, there is another NBL controversy brewing, this time involving Staats Elite Men's racer Mike Day.  Day found out on Saturday in South Park that his win the previous Sunday at the NBL's Hoosier National in Evansville, Indiana was stripped due to an expired license.  Day's license expired in Evansville that Saturday night at midnight.  Day got to keep the prize money but, more importantly, he lost seven points.  Those seven points have already proved invaluable as Day has gone from sitting six points in the lead to being one point behind GT's Randy Stumpfhauser going into the NBL Grand National come September.  Day has filed for an appeal with the NBL.

This isn't the first time that such a controversy has occurred.  The same thing happened to Free Agent's Kyle Bennett two years ago and also to S&M's Neal Wood a few years back, which cost him the NBL's then AA Pro title.  According to the NBL, a precedent with regards to this matter has already been set and they were simply following the rules.  The NBL feels that it is up to the rider to monitor the validity of his or her license.  There are quite a few people that disagree, stating that the NBL should not have allowed Day to race on Sunday at Evansville with no license.  "How does [Day] get his name on the moto board with no license?  What if he was injured?  Would the NBL's insurance cover him with an expired license?" was one riders question, a sentiment shared by a fair amount of riders.  According to the NBL, each national has a blanket event insurance policy that covers any and all spectators and riders, regardless if they are signed up to race or have a valid license.  "I would hate to see an Elite title come down to a book keeping error," stated one parent.  ISTV will keep you up to date as this story unfolds.
