Warren McDow suspension update
Hyper 16 Expert Warren McDow has been suspended until after the NBL Grand National in September. In a telephone interview with the controversial rider, McDow stated stated that he learned via mail that he was suspended until "a couple days after the NBL Grands," thereby ending the NBL season early for McDow. McDow also stated that he heard that Dan's Comp rider Mike Henderson has been "suspended indefinitely" from the NBL. No official word from the NBL or Dan's Comp has been received. Warren has not received any suspension from his sponsor Hyper Bicycles and will be at the ABA World Championships next week. On Sunday July 3rd at the NBL's Stars and Stripes National in South Park, Pennsylvania, in the 16 Expert main event, McDow was leading Dan's riders Henderson and Ramiro Marino down the first straight and into turn one. Henderson bumped Warren going into the turn which resulted in Henderson going down and Warren riding up and over the berm. Ramiro went on to win the main which brought on allegations of team riding on Dans part. At the finish line, an altercation ensued involving McDow and Marino because, according to McDow, Marino was "taunting him". Dan's team manager Teri Sonner called the police to press charges against McDow. Back at the Hyper trailer, another altercation between McDow and Henderson came about when Henderson entered the Hyper pit area to confront McDow. After some pushing and shoving, the melee' was broken up and McDow was ushered out of the pit area seconds before police arrived. As of this time, no charges have been pressed against McDow. This is not the first incident involving McDow and Henderson. The most recent was at the NBL Spring National in Morristown, Tennessee back in March, Henderson took McDow out in the first corner with a much harder move than the one in South Park. This maneuver resulted in a 30 day suspension for Henderson. Henderson was on probation when the South Park incident occurred, with a "no contact warning" which more than likely will factor into any decision regarding Henderson's future in the NBL. According to McDow, he has been "putting up with this for years" which played a major part in his reaction in South Park. According to an NBL team manager that wished to remain anonymous, "the NBL has turned a blind eye to [team riding] for so long that riders feel it is necessary to take matters into their own hands." No official word or statement from the NBL has been received. ISTV will keep you up to date as this story develops.
