ABA US NATIONALS FACTORY TEAM WRAP UP – San Bernardino, California - When the ABA rolls into California, you know some of the most intense BMX racing in the world is about to go down.  Racers from around the country and across the globe always find their way to the big California ABA races to test their mettle against the best of the best.  With the large rider counts, factory team managers eyes light up and their mouths begin to water; opportunities abound to grab much needed team points.  Well, the Factory TM’s eyes were bugging out of their heads in San Bernardino last weekend since the US National was not only the first California “A” schedule race of the 2005 season, but also the first major ABA race in nearly two months.  The Factory big guns were itching for a battle and they weren’t disappointed.

Factory Answer / Staats came into San Bernardino’s Orange Show BMX favored to win the Factory team competition.   Although their ace 13 Expert Sean “Bobo” Lechner was out with an injury, team manager Joey Licata has a quiver of riders that makes all other TM’s green with envy.  When you can throw names on a team sheet like Brabant, Herman, Fox, Caluag, and Garcia, you can go to sleep at night counting team titles instead of sheep.
The Phantom / On Trac crew strolled into the Orange Show as the most consistent Factory team so far in 2005, throwing down big scores in Reno, Phoenix and smaller ABA races.  Team Owner Chuck Colton considers the San Bernardino facility his home track and was looking to make the hometown crowd proud.
Factory Hyper / No Fear / Tangent team manager TJ Johnson has been on tour all year from east to west, back to the east coast, then back out west.  The traveling must have paid off as Hyper rolled into So Cal leading both the ABA and NBL Factory points standings, although they had struggled at the bigger ABA races.  This race was no day at the beach with several riders missing including Hyper’s ace-in-the-hole 18 Expert Mike Lundy.  Several other top factory teams were in the mix as well, including Challenge / Intense, featuring National #1 Amateur Josh Oie, Felt/Extreme Sports, Vendetta Bikes, Factory Brew / Promax, and Finishline / Supercross.

KILLER BYTES
In Saturday’s semi-final action,  Answer / Staats suffered three blows to their team sheets as young gun 9 Expert Hunter Pelham, National #2 Amateur Travis Ohrazda, and 16 Expert David Herman failed to make their respective class main events.  Pelham came back for the win on Sunday.…..
Hyper TM TJ Johnson had to feel a little nervous with only 7 eligible riders making the trip to California.  Compare that with Phantom’s 15-plus riders in Saturday’s Expert main events alone…..
Answer’s Josh Perez pulled down his first win in what seems like forever over Challenge’s Alden Volle while Jacob Abbe grabbed third in 8 Expert......
On Trac’s Jonathon Perry grabbed the top spot on Sunday…..
Phantom little guy Christopher Blevins just turned age but still had no problem dominating 7 Expert…..
Answer’s Jared Garcia was once again unbeatable in 12 Expert taking a couple of wins over Vendetta’s World Champ Matt Owen and On Trac’s Fernie Jacquez…..
Finishline / Supercross’ Anthony Nunez was one of the only little guys skying the doubles on the second straight, giving him the win in 9 Expert over On Trac’s Sean Gaian…..
Hyper’s Chad Kerley rocked 11 Expert with yet another double.  Kerley pulled off the move of the weekend pedaling the entire last straight in 11-12 Open on Saturday, coming from fourth to take the win by passing three On Trac riders…..
On Trac’s Vance Weisendanger pulled off two wins in 19-27 Expert as Hyper’s Mike McGonigle took a hard fall on Saturday that would end up keeping him out of Sunday’s racing…..
Joey Bradford has been flying lately but didn’t make Saturday’s 15 Expert main.  That left the door open for Felt / Extreme Sport’s LeAndre Parker to take the win and grab himself a double for Saturday with another win in Cruiser…..
Hyper’s Lahsaan Kobza knocked off Phantom’s Elliott McGrath in 13 Expert both days…..
Looks like Redman’s stand against running team sheets didn’t last very long, they turned in Factory sheets both days but didn’t fare very well, failing to make podium either day…..
On her way to yet another triple, Hyper’s Alise Post beat Phantom’s Terra Nichols for the top spot in 14 Girls.  She couldn’t make it stick in 13-14 Open on Sunday and had to settle for a measly double…..
Challenge / Intense’s National #1 Amateur Josh Oie was as fast and smooth as ever coming away with a win over Hyper’s Warren McDow on Saturday to add to his earlier cruiser win for a double.  McDow finally got his act together on Sunday taking the class win over Fox and Oie, which sealed the victory for the Hyper team on Sunday…..
With back-to-back titles in his pocket, Oie just didn’t look that inspired this weekend.  Could there be a new pro looming in the near future?…...
Redline’s Logan Owen was back out front, grabbing Saturday’s 10 Cruiser win…..
Supercross / Finishline’s Tyler Schaefer has been unstoppable lately pulling down a huge double in 11 Girls…..
What can you say about Jeff Upshaw?  Another 17-18 Expert double for one of the most stylish amateurs around…..
Phantom’s Shelbi Long double-doubled for the weekend…..
Redman’s Lain Van Ogle was on fire Sunday, doubling in 10 Expert and 10 Cruiser.

WRAP UP
Saturday Factory Team Podium

Sunday Factory Team Podium
1. 228  Factory Hyper / No Fear / Tangent

FACTORY TEAM STANDINGS (as of US Nationals)
1. 2446  Phantom / On Trac / Intense
2. 2256  Factory Hyper / No Fear / Tangent
3. 1783  Vendetta Bikes
4. 1670  Answer Factory / Staats
5. 1617  Crupi / Hurricane

With a couple of wins, Hyper looks to be coming on strong, rocking San Berdoo with its small team and putting up two of the top five scores for 2005 in the process.  Phantom remains as consistent as ever and is now leading the points chase.  Answer is still in the mix - you can never count the defending champs out.  Surprise team Vendetta Bikes is in third while the Crupi / Hurricane team, which looked strong early on, is fading fast.

Watch for the Factory battle to heat up at the next ABA “A” schedule national, the Spring Nationals in Roseville, California May 28-29.  Look for complete coverage of this event and much more only at ISTV.com!!
